FOR FANS OF THE VELVET UNDERGROUND / THE CLEAN
Blue Communications formed in late 2024, playing their first gig at their unofficial home the Tramway with Kisses in February 2025. Quickly, the band captured a group synergy they all felt when they started playing together. Avid believers in the Morning Music Movement, the record was written at their weekly rehearsals at Bell City, fuelled by coffee & pastries. Then recorded by Jasper Jolley at Big Fridge Sounds, in Ocean Grove. The band were listening to a lot of April Magazine, Grace Slick, Young Marble Giants, John Cale & The Clean (the latter they’ve been known to cover at their entrancing live shows).
In their short existence, Blue Comms have quickly carved out a vital pocket within Naarm’s live music scene, playing alongside acts like Mess Esque, R.M.F.C. & Daily Toll, all without any recorded music out. Whispers turned to shouts from an increasing number of converts, gained organically from show to show. You may see anything from a guiro frog, melodica or shruti box on stage, the band leaves a strong impact on all that encounter them.
The album is a continuation of that captivating energy, with singles Australian Summer & Simple Delight already gaining attention from local community radio stations, 3RRR & PBS to international love from London’s NTS. The debut album feels like a band that’s ahead of schedule. They’ve been up for hours, and only now, everyone else seems to have woken up.
